Challenge
Disinformation was a central part of the Kremlin’s playbook before the invasion of Ukraine (and continues to be). The MOD wanted to take a radically different approach to communications that had not been done before. They wanted to rapidly declassify top secret intelligence and share it with the world to demonstrate clearly that Putin was lying before and throughout the conflict.
Strategy
They needed strategic communications support at an especially high clearance level to deliver counter disinformation campaign that would communicate warfare like never before.
To achieve this we needed BFBS Creative’s embedded experts into DDC to act as a support service and advisory function. We had to establish processes to identify disinformation trends, declassify the latest intelligence, and work with DDC to produce content and campaigns.
Solution
We provided a team made up of:
-
Strategic communicators
-
Video producers
-
Graphic designers
-
Digital specialists
The team we put together were cleared to DV level. Within 24 hours of us getting this request the team were in MOD HQ getting their first Top Secret briefing.
Since starting this project our approach to innovative communications has been reported on by The Guardian and the Washington Post amongst others.
While the impact of our work is held itself at a high security classification, we can say that our work has had a measurable impact both domestically and internationally.
